Dr. Bashir A. Zikria, MD, MSc, FAAOS is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, Chief of Sports Medicine, and Medical Director for the Johns Hopkins National Capital Region. He also directs the Johns Hopkins Joint Restoration Center. With more than 20 years at Hopkins, he specializes in cartilage restoration, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, complex knee reconstruction, and complex shoulder and elbow disorders.
Dr. Zikria served as Chief of Surgery at Aspetar in Doha during the FIFA World Cup 2022, caring for elite international athletes. He is an active leader in the AAOS, serving on both the Sports Medicine and International Committees, and previously spent over a decade as Co-Director of the Sports Medicine Section for the AAOS Board Review Course. He also serves on the ICRS Education Committee and is a member of AOSSM.
An accomplished researcher and educator, Dr. Zikria has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, contributed to multiple textbooks, and participates in ongoing clinical trials in joint preservation and regenerative medicine. He reviews for major journals including JBJS (Associate Editor for CME) and AJSM, and has taught in more than 30 countries. He has received multiple teaching awards for excellence in education at Johns Hopkins.
