Ed McPherson is a Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at The David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery and recently completed his third recertification. He specializes in total hip and knee replacement surgery. His has expertise is complex revision arthroplasty. His particular focus is treating infected total joint replacements via advanced limb-salvage techniques that include: custom salvage implants, allograft transplantations and muscle flap transfers for joint restoration.

Dr. McPherson actively participates in research, serving as the principal investigator on evolving basic science and clinical research. He has 102 published manuscripts and has authored 8 book chapters. Notably, he developed a pioneering scoring system that stratifies infection risk in joint replacement. This system is globally recognized as the benchmark for guiding treatment algorithms. He is the longest reigning lecturer (28 years) at the prestigious JBJS Miller Review Course (MRC) for orthopaedic residents and has won best lecture award twice in his tenure. He has been awarded best teacher at two universities in his career. He is regularly invited to national and international meetings. Dr. McPherson has passion for orthopaedic implant innovation and serves on several design teams and advisory boards for orthopaedic technology.

Dr. McPherson is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS), the European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS), the Societe Internationale Chirgue and Orthopaedic Traumatologie (SICOT), and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States (AMSUS). He has won the prestigious Jeanette Wilkins award at the MSIS twice: once for clinical and once for basic science research.

Dr. McPherson began his speaking affiliation with Dr Kevin Plancher at the JBJS Miller Orthopaedic Review Course and was Dr. Plancher’s inaugural speaker/faculty class for OSET. He is now honored to serve in the inaugural speaker/faculty class for Global Knee Summit.
