Buru Gilbert Moatshe is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon at the Orthopaedic Department,
Oslo University Hospital and Oslo Sports Trauma research Centre. His clinical practice is
focused on Arthroscopy, Complex knee surgery and Sports Traumatology and Arthroscopy.
After residency training, he enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Oslo under the
supervision of Professor Lars Engebretsen and Dr Robert F. LaPrade. He defended his PhD
thesis on the title “Knee Dislocation: Epidemiology, Biomechanics and Clinical Outcomes” in
March 2018. He was research fellow at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, and was a
clinical orthopaedic sports medicine Fellow at Fowler Kennedy
Sports Medicine Clinic, University of Western Ontario from 2019 to 2020. He also has a
Diploma in Sports Medicine through International Olympic Committee (2019), a 2 years
course in general sports medicine.
He has received numerous awards including AOSSM Excellence in Research Award, AAOS
Scientific Exhibit Award of Excellence, ISAKOS Sports Medicine Achilles Award, JBJS Essential
Techniques Editor´s Choice Video Award, William A. Grana Award for Best Original Research.
Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, American Journal of Sports Medicine Systematic
Review Award, AOSSM Cabaud Memorial Award, Best Case Report American Academy of
Sports Physical Therapy. He was selected as fellow for the inaugural ISAKOS Traveling
Fellowship in 2019 and was a traveling fellow with ESSKA-APKASS in 2024. He is active in research and has published over 200 articles and book
chapters. He is a reviewer for most of the major orthopaedic journals. He is a Deputy Editor for JBJS.
