I am an orthopedic surgeon who still finds the knee endlessly fascinating, which probably explains most of my career choices. I graduated from the University of Navarra, completed my residency in Madrid, and earned a PhD at the Complutense University of Madrid, where I studied the knee using a sheep model under the supervision of Prof. Forriol, confirming that even ovine knees can be demanding.

I then spent several formative years in the United States, training at institutions where I encountered many great minds and generous mentors, including the Hospital for Special Surgery, Lenox Hill Hospital, and Penn State Hershey. More recently, I had the opportunity to perform the Insall Travelling Fellowship in the United States, an experience that further enriched my clinical and academic perspective on knee surgery.

I am also a former Travelling Fellow of the European Knee Society, an experience that allowed me to exchange ideas and surgical philosophies with colleagues across Europe and reinforced my interest in collaborative research and education.

After my training abroad, I returned to Spain with a stronger passport, fewer weekends, and a permanent interest in knee surgery, research, and biomechanics. Since then, I have worked in the academic university hospital environment in Murcia, where I am from, combining clinical practice with teaching and research. Along the way, I co-founded, together with my partner Vicente León Muñoz, a specialized private knee center in Murcia, the Instituto de Cirugía Avanzada de la Rodilla.

I currently practice in Madrid at Olympia Medical Center with the group led by Dr. Leyes, while maintaining a partial clinical presence at ICAR in Murcia. I also serve on the editorial board of KSSTA and have recently enjoyed hosting the ESSKA–KSSTA podcast series, which we are currently recording. I remain convinced that good knee surgery is part science, part experience, and mainly about knowing when to keep things simple.
