Matthew Varacallo, MD, MBA

Dr. Matthew Varacallo is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and Chief of Sports Medicine at Penn Highlands Healthcare, where he also serves as Director of Orthopedic Robotic Surgery and Assistant Program Director for the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. He is a team physician for multiple regional colleges, including Clarion University and Penn State branch campus athletics, and also serves as team physician for the DuBois Dream semi-professional basketball team.

Dr. Varacallo is a Clinical Adjunct Professor of Orthopedics with the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is passionate about medical student, resident, fellowship, and young-physician mentorship through OrthoMentor LLC, a national mentorship platform he co-founded. He also serves as Associate Editor for Sounds from the Training Room, a collaborative publication with JAAOS.

Dr. Varacallo has authored over 250 PubMed-indexed publications, with academic interests such as: biologics, zero opioid perioperative protocols, sports medicine, and total joint arthroplasty outcomes.
